Let me say this clearly and without any fear. I think you should allow NTV to pay their bills. Who pays through advertisements? Not the guys on the streets. Not the guy at Gikosh making the next fuel efficient jiko. No. Its the CEOs of top companies like Safaricom, etc who must then be called upon to regurgitate to us what they feel is innovation. Get my drift? So Kachwanya, you and me need to devise a way of getting to know about the "real innovators" and encouraging them to do their best. There is alternative media now - the social media. Let's get our cameras and profile these people we feel are innovators and then post their works on Youtube. You never know. One day Wallace Kantai may just pick up the same after seeing it trending and change his mind about innovation. For now, let him pay the bills.

This issue of funding ICT affairs is becoming the greatest con....! My take is if GoK was really into getting people to work on this and benefit society....it would ensure that its sites are working for starters.....have uni students digitise docs like in Min of Lands and Courts....Police....things/places that everyone will indeed feel the effect of digitisation.

Then have internet costs lowered to the barest minimum........then leave Kenyans and techies to their own devices.......!! They will grow....and those that want cash, they can go to Youth or those SME biz loans.....

But this current set up is lots of mathogothanio and lost of cash will disappear...!!

Seriously, the only project from the list I have heard is Ask A Doc. There should have been an audit before second round of funding was disbursed.
I have Googled some of the projects listed, most don't have websites, those that have, last update was June 2011

Nobody from Safaricom was involved in the process apart from checking whether their banners were at the final setting of the venue and attending the event. Jeff Koinange might not be the ideal according to some people for the award he was given but again, it was decided by people...

what is missing is end to end redundancy (a major FAIL!!!). the core network might have redundancy but the transmission doesn't, the transmission network might have redundancy but the backbone doesn't...

it's never impossible. it can be done. so all this can b attributed to laziness and politics.
